Meet the Pigs of Castlemains Farm
Our pigs are a much-loved part of the Castlemains family! They’re full of personality, very clever, and always up to something – whether it's snuffling around the paddocks, enjoying a good mud bath, or coming over to say hello. We care for several different breeds, each with their own special traits.
Kunekune Pigs

We have four lovely female Kunekunes and two cheeky boys. Originally from New Zealand, Kunekunes (pronounced “cooney cooney”) are small, round pigs known for their sweet nature and friendly attitude.
Fun facts:
-
Their name means “fat and round” in Māori – very fitting!
-
Some have little tassels under their chin called wattles.
-
They love belly rubs and will happily flop over for attention.
-
Kunekunes are grazers and can live mostly on grass.
British Lop Pigs

Our two British Lops are a rare sight! This large white breed is known for their floppy ears and gentle nature. They’re calm, kind, and great ambassadors for traditional British livestock.
Fun facts:
-
Their ears hang over their eyes like natural sunshades!
-
British Lops are one of the UK’s rarest native pig breeds.
-
They’re incredibly docile and intelligent.
Saddleback Pigs

We also have two Saddlebacks, instantly recognisable by their shiny black coats and the white band (or “saddle”) over their shoulders. They’re curious, bold, and love a good root around!
Fun facts:
-
The Saddleback is a cross between Wessex and Essex breeds.
-
They’re outdoor-loving pigs with strong foraging instincts.
-
Their unique colour pattern makes them easy to spot in a field.
