Welcome to the very first blog post from Castlemains Equestrian! Weāre delighted to start sharing weekly updates from life on the farmāgiving you a glimpse into the day-to-day care of our animals, the people who help us, and the joy (and chaos!) of working with so many wonderful creatures.
This week was a big one for the sheep, goatsāand pigs!
We were thrilled to have Lawrence and the team from Endrick ValleyĀ join us to carry out essential animal health care. Their expertise and calm manner made what could have been a hectic day run incredibly smoothly.
𩺠Hereās what we got done:
All our sheep and goatsĀ were vaccinated with HepivacĀ and wormed, making sure they stay healthy and protected.
The lambsĀ received their second vaccinations, and so did all of our goats.
The sheep were shearedĀ tooānow looking much tidier and definitely cooler in this summer weather!
š Exciting pig news!
Lawrence also scanned our pigs, and weāre thrilled to announce that two are pregnant!Ā Even more excitingātheyāre both Kune Kune pigs, our much-loved, gentle-natured girls.
For those who donāt know, Kune KunesĀ (pronounced "cooney cooney") are a small, friendly breed of pig originally from New Zealand. Known for their short snouts, hairy coats, and sociable personalities, they make fantastic outdoor pigs. Ours love a good belly rub and are always first to the food trough!
š When are the piglets due?The gestation period for pigs is roughly three months, three weeks, and three daysāso weāre expecting our first-ever Castlemains piglets to arrive in late September to early October. We canāt wait to welcome the new arrivals and will be sharing regular updates as we prepare for their arrival.
š A big thank you again to Lawrence and Endrick ValleyĀ for their care and support. It takes a team to keep things running smoothly, and weāre so grateful to have such experienced hands helping us look after our animals.
Thatās all for nowābut stay tuned each week for more stories from the stables, fields, and beyond. Whether youāre an animal lover, a fellow farmer, or just curious about life at Castlemains, weāre so glad to have you with us.
Until next time,The Castlemains Team
